The final steps of declaring N R Pura taluk as ‘Nirmal taluk’ is going on at the Zilla Panchayat office after all the villages in the taluk met the target of total sanitation. If Aduvalli Gram Panchayat in the taluk bags the Nirmal Gram Puraskar this year from the Central Government, then N R Pura will be declared as ‘Nirmal Taluk’.

People blame that the taluk is deprived of all basic facilities due to the construction of Bhadra dam. They presume that N R Pura taluk would have been developed in the same pace like Shimoga, if the dam was not constructed across Bhadra. People in the taluk are forced to reach the district headquarters and other centre using distant routes because of the construction of Bhadra reservoir. There was demand for road between N R Pura and Chikmagalur via Koosagal village by constructing a bridge across Bhadra river. A memorandum in the regard was submitted to the then Member of Parliament and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The government had released Rs 33.70 lakh for the purpose in 1978-79, but only Rs 22.5 lakh was spent then. Politicians K M Veerappa Gowda, Begane Ramaiah, H G Govinda Gowda and D B Chandregowda had strived for the sanction of road then.
